On 22 April a group of 15 Exsa producers and employees had the privilege to board the MOL Caledon for a tour of this giant vessel. They also enjoyed a lunch served by the crew and hosted by the captain. The tour was led by Arthur Carelse, the Ship’s Agent. Experiencing the sheer size of everything on the vessel as well as the sophisticated mechanical, computer and navigation equipment was certainly impressive.
The vessel is 300 meters long and she has a capacity of 4000 containers above and below deck. In the very hot engine room the giant engine and propeller shaft required to drive this behemoth could not fail to make an impression on the visitors. She was immaculately clean throughout and only has a crew of 25! This was her third visit to Cape Town during this season.
