Water Conservation Efforts
Water is a precious resource, especially in the context of agriculture. At EXSA, we employ advanced irrigation techniques and technologies to maximise water efficiency.
Our use of DFM (Drip Feed Management) probes allows us to accurately monitor soil moisture levels, ensuring that our farms receive just the right amount of water – no more, no less.
This precise approach to irrigation not only conserves water but also promotes the health and quality of our grapes.
Embracing Renewable Energy
Solar energy represents a clean, sustainable power source, and at EXSA, we are embracing this renewable energy with open arms.
Our investment in solar technology not only reduces our carbon footprint but also ensures a more sustainable and environmentally friendly energy supply for our operations.
This shift to solar energy is a critical step in our journey towards becoming a carbon-neutral company.
Reducing Fertiliser Use
Our approach to fertilisation is balanced and thoughtful. We utilise integrated soil management programmes, including the use of organic composts and cover crops, to enrich our soils naturally.
This reduces our dependence on chemical fertilisers, lessening our environmental footprint and enhancing the natural biodiversity of our table grape farms.
Pest Management & Biodiversity
With our producers, we practice Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies that emphasise biological over chemical control of pests.
By developing natural ecosystems and habitats within the farms, we encourage the presence of beneficial insects and organisms that naturally keep pest populations in check.
This approach minimises the need for chemical pesticides, preserving the surrounding ecology.
Continuous Improvement and Innovation
At EXSA, we are continually assessing and improving our sustainability practices.
We are currently working with specialist consultants at Blue North, who’ve worked with the likes of Woolworths, to develop a strong sustainability strategy for the business, one of the first in the table grape sector.
