Exsa growers in the Trawal region were amongst the top achievers in the Olifants River Table Grape Association’s annual vineyard block competition, held during December 2020.

The trophy for the best young vineyard block was awarded to Henning Aggenbacht, production manager at De Vlei Boerdery’s Spook en Spartel production unit (pictured above). This was for a young block of Sweet Globe planted in 2018. Jannie van Niekerk, production manager at De Vlei Boerdery’s Vaalwater production unit, achieved third place for in the established vineyard block division of the competition. This was for a block of Tawny Seedless. Anneke Stephan, liaison officer for the Olifants River Table Grape Association, explained that during the past decade of the competition, the De Vlei farms have regularly achieved winning places in the region’s block competition.
